Ray battled and D-backs let go the 1st of the series against Tigers

Justin Upton and James McCann homered, Mikie Mahtook drove in two runs with a single and the Detroit Tigers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-3 on Tuesday to open a two-game series.

Justin Verlander (3-2) worked six innings and faced two hitters of the next to take his second consecutive victory. He conceded three runs and seven hits, as well as handing out three tickets with seven strikeouts.
