Rodney fails in the ninth and D-backs fall to Padres

Ryan Schimpf hit a three-run homer to break a draw with an out in the top of the ninth and give the San Diego Padres a 8-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Schimpf, who came with a double when San Diego was 5-3 down in the bottom of the sixth, began the day hitting .102. In his second at-bat at night he sent a pitch by Arizona closer Fernando Rodney to the right-field seats, to put the Padres 6-5 up.
